The Veiled Chameleon of Florida
This species is native to the southwestern coastal regions of Saudi Arabia and western Yemen, where it inhabits mountainous coastal regions, inland river valleys, and agricultural lands, where there is more moisture. These exotic lizards became popular in the U.S. pet trade, especially in Florida. During the past ten years, there have been a lot of sightings of veiled chameleons throughout southern Florida. Unfortunately, irresponsible pet owners sometimes release them into the wild after they have lost interest in caring for them. In this image, the veiled chameleon is perched on one of its favorite plants, the hibiscus. “The Veiled Chameleon of Florida,” is a digital painting and composite created by Spadecaller.
