Sabrewing Hummingbirds and Magnolia
The violet sabrewing is a very large hummingbird native to southern Mexico and Central America. The male violet sabrewing is 5.9 inches long and weighs 11.5 g (0.41 oz) and the female is slightly smaller. It is the largest hummingbird found outside of South America and the largest sabrewing. Ranging from southern Mexico into western Panama this species resides in the understory and edges of mountain forests at higher elevations. They are most commonly seen on coffee or banana plantations near streams, where they like to build their nests. “Sabrewing Hummingbirds and Magnolia,” is a hand-painted digital image and photo composite created in Spadecaller’s Florida Studio on 3/22/23.
