Domestic Violence
One out of four women in the United States experience domestic violence during their lifetime. It is the leading cause of injury to women between the ages of 15 and 44 in the United States, more than auto accidents, muggings, and rapes combined. Domestic violence consists of multiple forms of physical and non-physical abuse designed to control and oppress another person. 60% of Native American women are physically assaulted in their lifetime by a partner or spouse. Women are nearly three times more likely to be killed by their partner than men and more likely to be killed during pregnancy. More than 50% of homeless women were subject to domestic violence. If you are in danger, please use a safe computer, or call 911, your local hotline, or the U.S. National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 and TTY 1-800-787-3224.
