Storms, heavy rain, snow, high winds, and bitter-cold temperatures do not deter the journey of the arctic tern, as it spends most of the year soaring over cold waters far offshore. The arctic tern breeds on coasts of the arctic tundra, New England, Washington, and Britain north to the northern-most limits of land, and spends the rest of the year at sea.
