Wheat and Chaff
A couple of my friends recommended that I should not watch the news, because it is riddled with propaganda and untruths. Being a concerned citizen, I thought to myself how could anyone contribute to society, vote in elections, or commit to any worthy causes without knowledge of the real world. Hiding my head in the sand does not appeal to me. As I began working on this picture, I thought about how a bird cracks away the husk to eat a grain of wheat. The old saying came to mind; “Separate the wheat from the chaff.” In the ancient agricultural practice of winnowing, that is exactly what was done to expose the wheat to the wind so that the chaff would blow away. All that would remain was the wheat. Like the bird, we must distinguish the wanted from the unwanted, the valuable from the relatively valueless. “Wheat and Chaff” is a hand-painted digital image created in Spadecaller’s Florida Studio on 1/21/2021.
