Lorikeet in Papaya Tree
The rainbow lorikeet is a species of parrot found in Australia along the eastern seaboard, from northern Queensland to South Australia. These parrots feed mainly on fruit, pollen, and nectar. Nectar from eucalyptus, African tulip-tree, and sago palm. In Fiji, Vanuatu, the Solomon Islands, and Papua New Guinea, coconuts are an especially important food source. In addition, the rainbow lorikeets are important pollinators for the reproduction of these trees. Lorikeets also consume papaya and mangoes already opened by fruit bats. Sweet-natured, vibrantly brilliant rainbow lorikeets are talkative long-lived parrots. They are busybodies that love to be in the limelight. And, like a young puppy, they encourage play. “Lorikeet in Papaya Tree,” is a hand-painted digital image and photo composite created in Spadecaller’s Florida Studio on 6/5/2021.
