California Quail and Milkmaids
The Valley Quail is the state bird of California. This ground dwelling species is highly social and has become well adapted to living near civilization, however development of coastal regions threatens current populations. These birds are most often found around woodland edges, chaparral, grasslands, farms, parks, and coastal scrub. In this image, the wildflowers in the foreground are known as Milkmaids. They are native to western North America from Washington to California and Baja California. They are often found growing on shady slopes, open woodlands, chaparral and grasslands. It is one of the first wildflowers to bloom each year in the San Francisco Bay Area. “California Quail and Milkmaids,” is a digital painting and composite created by Spadecaller.
