Native to Mexico and Central America, the violet sabrewing is the largest hummingbird (5.1 to 5.9 in) with a wingspan of about 12 inches. The species inhabits the humid evergreen montane forest and mature secondary forest, banana plantations, and gardens. Violet sabrewings aggressively defend their territory by being quite vocal and by chasing off any other hummingbird that dares to enter his domain. “The Violet Sabrewing Hummingbird” is a hand-painted digital image and photo composite created in Spadecaller’s Florida Studio on 8/25/2023.
