Florida Sandhill Cranes
Sandhill cranes are a year-around Florida residents that inhabit freshwater ponds and marshes. These cranes are found throughout the Florida peninsular north to the Okefenokee Swamp in southern Georgia. This species is monogamous. Their courtship dance is quite flamboyant; consisting of jumping, running, and wing flapping. Both mates build their nests out of grass, moss, and sticks. Females lay two eggs that incubate for 32 days. The male and female share in incubating the eggs. The offspring will begin traveling from the nest with their parents just 24-hours after hatching.
