Great depiction of Jack. TomB In my early Jazz career, ca. 1952, I worked with a contemporary of Jack Teagarden. Red Stewart was retired from a full time music career and agreed to play 2 nights a week with our sextet, plus do all of our special arrangements. [Today we would be called a cover band.] In the shank of the evening when all were fairly well intoxicated and Red had his eye on a particular lady, Red would take the bell section off his trombone, go out on the floor and ask the lady-of-his-eye for her partially consumed drink. He would drink the glass empty and place the glass over the open end of the dissected trombone and proceed to play a song using the glass as a substitute bell. It was always a crowed pleaser and sounded much like a small trumpet. Your Teagarden sure brings memories back - thanks!
