Each year someone inevitably asks me: "what is this holiday about?" And many of those who ask, are actually interested in the answer. Of course, in Judaism there are several sects and the interpretation and observance of this important holiday does vary somewhat. However, this poster provides a more personal interpretation. I am not a religious Jew in the traditional sense, but the meaning of this holiday, the day of atonement still carries meaning and value for me. The purpose of religion is suppose to bring people closer, to share love, and to find peace within ourselves. I have not found that organized religion has succeeded in this worthy endeavor. In fact, historically and currently it seems to be more of a source of discord and unrest for most of us in the world. However, my personal beliefs in the spiritual principles that unite us and bring out the best of us need not be discarded. As the old saying goes, "Don't throw out the baby with the bad bath water." Shalom!
