Fulvous Whistling Ducks
The fulvous whistling duck is a species of duck that breeds across the world's tropical areas in much of Mexico and South America, the West Indies, the Southern United States, sub-Saharan Africa and the Indian subcontinent. Extending across four continents, the fulvous whistling duck’s range is very expansive. As its name indicates, it whistles when in flight or on the ground. Its favored habitat consists of wetlands with plentiful vegetation, including shallow lakes and paddy fields. In response to the availability of water and food, it relocates seasonally. African birds journey southwards in the southern summer to breed and winter in the north. Due to the variability of rainfall, Asian populations are highly nomadic. Wandering birds may journey far beyond the normal range. These drifters have been found nesting in Morocco, Peru and Hawaii. The fulvous whistling duck favors wetlands, lowland marshes swamps, even rice fields. “Fulvous whistling Ducks,” is a digital painting and composite created by Spadecaller.
