Hummingbird and Mexican Butterfly Weed
The Ruby-throated Hummingbird is the only breeding hummingbird in North America. These brilliant, precision-flying creatures glisten like fine jewels. With a flash of red and green they vanish on their way to the next blossom. By early Autumn they are bound for Central America, with many crossing the Gulf of Mexico in a single flight. On the west coast of Florida, where I live, I like to find flowering butterfly weed and wait; that's where the hummingbirds and butterflies will often come.
