Miss Cogan's Goldfish
Miss Cogan was my elderly neighbor. We met for the first time when I was about 7 years old. She had a beautiful and secluded backyard. My first encounter occurred when I hopped her fence to see her wonderful rock pond that she stocked with goldfish. This is what I remember her saying to me: "Yesterday, I scared away some boys. They climbed the fence and tried to catch the Goldfish.Today, I saw you sitting and watching them swim. You are welcome anytime; Just use the gate, please". We remained friends until she died nearly 10 years later at age 97.
