Red Masked Parakeet
While the Red-masked Parakeet is native to the coastal scrub of southwestern Ecuador and northeastern Peru, it has become a wild resident of several Florida counties. Since the 1980's they have been increasing in numbers with flocks comprised of many immature birds. These highly social birds inhabit suburban neighborhoods in Florida, where they feed on various fruits, in addition to visiting backyard feeders. This mature bird was photographed in the Palm Beach area.
