Joan of Arc began her campaign to push the English out of France in the Vosges mountains of Eastern France. Grand Ballon is the highest peak in the mountain range. The Vosges spans 6 departments (provinces) and was the home of Jeanne d'Arc;her house still stands in Domrémy.
