Waiting for the Sunflower
Sunflowers are large annual flowers native to North America and grow throughout most of the United States. In addition to the huge and brilliantly colored blossoms that for years have been a classic subject of beauty for artists and others, the seeds are sought after by many kinds of wild creatures. Animals that save seeds for winter such as chipmunks love sunflower seeds. However, only mature flowers yield the delectable treasure. The chipmunk in this image has arrived too early in the season to gather seeds for the winter.
