Spadecaller’s Gerbera
This bold and brilliantly colored flower is a Gerbera. It is a genus of the family of sunflowers, Daisies and Asters - Asteraceae, widely distributed from Africa to Madagascar, tropical Asia and South America. Gerberas hybrids are available in a vast array of colors. Gerberas are perennials featuring a large capitulum with striking, 2-lipped ray florets. The capitulum on the Gerberas has the appearance of a single flower, but is actually a cluster of hundreds of individual flowers. The flower formation presents itself in either single or double rows of pedals. This image shows a double Gerbera with two rows of overlapping dark red eye petals. Spadecaller’s Gerbera is a digital painting created from a composite of original photographs.
